ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
MINUTES
July 12, 2012
APPROVED
Members present where: Chairman, Joan Karpf, Vice Chairman, Paul Bussiere, member David Ikasalo, and Alternate member, Leslie Bergum.
Also present was David Scalley.
10:00 AM a quorum being present, Chairman Karpf called the meeting to order.
Minutes Review:
Minutes of June 14, 2012
Ms. Bergum wanted, on page 2, after “no objection from abutters”, add to her motion “Mr. Temple’s letter was referenced.”
Mr. Ikasalo offered a motion to approve the Minutes of June 14, 2012 as amended. Ms. Bergum seconded the motion. The vote was 4 – 0. The motion carries.
Communications and Miscellaneous:
Chairman Karpf spoke of the criteria for deciding variances. She said it is the applicant’s responsibility to prove his request fits the criteria. She said, all the ZBA is required to do is agree or disagree with the applicant’s arguments. This is the preferred way to address a motion according to information acquired at workshops on the issue. The Board generally agreed that addressing the motion as a whole would simplify and clarify the motion. Each member would still be able to give individual input and opinion of individual criteria. It would only be the resulting motion that would be streamlined.
There was correspondence which some members had just picked up before the meeting. Correspondence was tabled until the next meeting.
Mr. Ikasalo gave out a document entitled Required Ordinance Changes to be Adopted Through the Zoning Amendment Process. The Secretary will research this document and contact LGC if necessary. This will be on the agenda for the next meeting.

4 – 0. The motion carries.
